Through the program ‘Future Library’, which is financed by the Stavros Niarchos foundation for the improvement of libraries, KIKPE has been enriching libraries in underdeveloped areas of Attica and all over Greece. More specifically, it contributes to the enrichment of libraries with new noteworthy publications and cooperates with the heads of the libraries for the organization of educational conferences and cultural events of local or wider character. The selection of the libraries is based on preference and viability criteria:

  • Effective management structure
  • Organization of local events of promotion for the donation (exposition of the material, presentations of the publications, publicity in the local press, etc)
  • Satisfactory number of members and visitors of each library
  • Technological infrastructure for the visitors (computers, internet accessibility, printers, etc)
  • Children and teenagers’ departments
  • Use of mobile units
  • Organization of creative laboratories and cultural events

During the years 2012–2018, KIKPE endorsed 60 public libraries with 22,000 books from the annual production of selected publishing houses. The libraries themselves were subscribed to the “Athens Review of Books” and “Social Sciences” publications, under the initiative and financing of the Foundation.
